This following test will determine if the service brakes are functional. Before any tests are performed, visually inspect the complete braking system for oil leaks and damaged parts. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Visual Inspection". Before any tests are performed, prepare the machine for troubleshooting. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Machine Preparation for Testing and Adjusting".Service Brake Holding Ability Test
Check the area around the machine. Make sure that the machine is clear of personnel and clear of obstacles.Make sure that the steering frame lock link is in the STORED position.Test the brakes on a dry 25% slope.Fasten the seat belt before you test the brakes.The following tests are used to determine if the service brake is functional. These tests are not intended to measure the maximum brake holding effort.
Start the engine. Raise the work tool slightly.
Apply the service brake. Release the parking brake. The machine should not move under the following conditions.
The engine is at low idle.
The bucket is empty.
The machine is warmed up and the machine is fully stopped.
The service brake is firmly depressed.If the machine moves, consult your Caterpillar dealer.
Engage the parking brake. Lower the work tool to the ground. Stop the engine. Test for the Service Brakes
Move the machine to a smooth, horizontal location. Move the machine away from other operating machines and away from personnel.
Lower the work tool to the ground. Stop the engine.
Engage the parking brake.
Connect the steering frame lock. Place chocks in front of the wheels and behind the wheels.

Install the 8T-0857 Gauge directly to the test port (7). Note: The gauge must be installed directly to the test port. The use of a hose of any length will cause an incorrect pressure reading at the gauge.

Remove the chocks.
Fasten the seat belt. Start the engine. Raise the work tool slightly.
Disengage the parking brake.
Press on the brake pedal three times. Press the brake pedal until the pressure on the 8T-0857 Gauge reaches 1000 kPa (145 psi). Use a mirror to view the gauge.
Read the value of the sensor for the brake pedal.
Calibrate FULL inching to the calculated value and configure the ECM.
Release the brake pedal. Read the position of the sensor for the brake pedal. Set the position as ZERO inching.
After testing, lower the work tool to the ground and stop the engine.
Engage the parking brake.
Place chocks in front of the wheels and behind the wheels.
Remove the test equipment.
Remove the chocks. Test Brake System and
