(A) New belt
(B) Worn belt
Inspect the condition of serpentine belt (6). Over time the belt ribs will lose material (C). The space between the ribs will increase (D). The loss of material will cause the pulley sheave to contact the belt valley. This will lead to belt slippage and accelerated wear (E). Replace the belt if the belt is worn or frayed.
Close both the right-hand and left-hand engine access doors.
Turn the battery disconnect switch to the ON position.Replace

Turn the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Open both the right-hand and left-hand engine access doors.
Rotate belt tensioner (5) clockwise to release the tension from the belt with a 12.7 mm (0.5 inch) square drive tool.
Remove the belt.
Install the new belt. Be certain that the belt is properly routed and aligned in the grooves of air conditioner compressor pulley (1), alternator pulley (2), fan drive pulley (4), and crankshaft drive pulley (7).
Allow the belt tensioner to rotate counterclockwise against the belt to provide proper tension.
Close the engine access doors.
