Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
If the steering system has been disassembled, the steering system should be purged in order to remove any air from the system.Note: Before attempting to purge air from the steering system, check that the hose clamps on the hydraulic suction line between the hydraulic tank and the hydraulic pump are tight.Use the following procedure in order to purge air from the steering system. Ensure that the engine is operating at low idle and with the oil at normal operating temperature.

Use steering mode switch (1) to select circle steer mode (B). Turn the steering wheel fully clockwise until the road wheels are on full lock.
Select two-wheel steer mode (A). Turn the steering wheel fully counterclockwise until the road wheels are on full lock.
Select crab steer mode (C). Turn the steering wheel fully clockwise until the road wheels are on full lock.
Select two-wheel steer mode (A). Turn the steering wheel fully counterclockwise until the road wheels are on full lock.
Select circle steer mode (B). Turn the steering wheel fully clockwise until the road wheels are on full lock.
Repeat steps 2 to 5.
