Stopping the Machine
SMCS Code: 7000.
Personal injury or death can result from not engaging the parking brake.Transmission engagement alone will not prevent the machine from rolling when the engine is stopped.
Do not use the parking brake to stop the machine.
Stop the machine on level ground. 1. Release accelerator control (2). Depress service brake control (1) or pull the manual retarder lever completely downward to stop the machine.2. Move the transmission direction and speed control lever to NEUTRAL position, after the machine has stopped. 3. Engage the parking brake. Do not use the manual retarder lever or the service brake control to park the machine for long periods of time with or without the engine running. Use the parking brake.Stopping the Engine
SMCS Code: 1000-7000.
Stopping the engine immediately after it has been working under load can result in overheating and accelerated wear of the engine components. If the engine has been operating at high rpm and/or high loads, run at low idle for at least three minutes to reduce and stabilize internal engine temperature before stopping the engine.Avoiding hot engine shutdowns will maximize turbocharger shaft and bearing life.
1. To allow the engine to gradually cool, operate the engine at low idle for three minutes. 2. Turn the engine start switch key to the OFF position to stop the engine.
Never turn the battery disconnect switch key to the OFF position with the engine running. Electrical system damage could result.
3. Turn the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position. Remove the disconnect key. 4. If the machine is parked, block the wheels.5. Drain the water from the air tanks. Refer to the topic Air Tank Moisture and Sediment - Drain.Stopping the Engine if an Electrical Malfunction Occurs
SMCS Code: 1000-7000.Turn the engine start switch to the OFF position. If the engine does not stop, perform the following procedure.1. Engage the parking brake. 2. If the machine is equipped with an engine shutdown control, use the engine shutdown control to stop the engine. Otherwise remove the monitoring system fuse from the fuse panel. Do not operate the machine again until the malfunction has been corrected.Leaving the Machine
SMCS Code: 7000. 1. Use the steps and handholds when you get off the machine. Face the machine and use both hands. Make sure the steps are clear of debris before you dismount. 2. Inspect the engine compartment for debris. Clean out any debris and paper to avoid a fire. 3. Remove all flammable debris from the front bottom guard to reduce fire hazard. Dispose of debris properly. 4. Turn the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position. Remove the battery disconnect key. This will help to prevent a battery short circuit and from any possible current draw by components over extended time periods.
