Removal Procedure
Start By:
Remove the cab. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, SENR9124, "Cab - Remove" for the proper procedure.
Remove the crankcase guard. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, SENR9124, "Crankcase Guard - Remove and Install" for the proper procedure.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Put identification marks on all lines, hoses, wires, and tubes for installation purposes. Plug all lines, hoses and tubes. This helps prevent fluid loss and contamination of the oil system.
Drain the oil from the torque converter by removing the cover from the torque converter screen. The volume of oil in the torque converter is approximately 19 L (5 US gal).

Remove four bolts (2), the washers and two half clamps (3) in order to disconnect hose (4) from hydraulic steering pump (1). Move hose (4) aside. Remove the O-ring seal from hose (4) .

Disconnect hydraulic hose (5) from hydraulic steering pump (1). Move hose (5) aside. Remove the O-ring seal from hose (5) .

Disconnect hydraulic hoses (6) and (8) from torque converter (7). Move hoses (6) and (8) aside. Remove the O-ring seals from hoses (6) and (8) .

Disconnect hoses (9) and (10) from torque converter (7). Move hoses (9) and (10) aside. Remove the O-ring seals from hoses (9) and (10) .

Remove reusable strap (12) from hydraulic hoses (11) and (13) .

Remove reusable strap (14) from hydraulic hoses (11) and (13). Remove four bolts (16), the washers and two half clamps (15) in order to disconnect hose (13) from steering pump (1). Move hose (13) aside. Remove the O-ring seal from hose (13) .

Disconnect hydraulic hose (18) from steering pump pressure and flow compensator valve (17). Move hose (18) aside. Remove the O-ring seal from hose (18) .

Remove four bolts (20) in order to disconnect drive shaft (19) from torque converter (7). Move drive shaft (19) aside.

Remove four bolts (24), the washers and two half clamps (22) in order to disconnect pipe (25) from torque converter relief valve (21). Move pipe (25) aside. Remove the O-ring seal from pipe (25) .
Remove three bolts (23) and the washers. Remove torque converter relief valve (21) from torque converter (7). Remove two O-ring seals from torque converter relief valve (21) .

Attach a nylon lifting strap and a hoist to hydraulic steering pump (1). Remove two bolts (26) and the washers that secure hydraulic steering pump (1) to torque converter (7) .
Use the hoist and move hydraulic steering pump (1) out of torque converter (7). Remove hydraulic steering pump (1) from the machine. Remove the O-ring seal from hydraulic steering pump (1). The weight
