REMOVE CERTAIN 3T3421 SOLENOIDS FROM STOCKS, 1407, 1453, PI7136 U-25 A-14 AU-21 B-6 C-21 E-19 O-19 TT-4 TA-2 TM-2 parts stock action only Problem Certain 3T3421 Solenoid Assemblies may allow water to leak past the terminal plate gasket into the solenoid. The moisture can corrode the stud contacts and cause starting problems. Action Requested A. Inspect all parts stocks of this solenoid. Remove from stocks all of these solenoids with "2F" as part of the date code. Looking at the terminal posts, the date code is on the right mounting foot. If "2F" is part of the code, for example 24V2F00, remove the solenoid from parts stocks. Users should inspect their stocks too. B. Also, inspect all parts stocks of only Delco starters that have either 35, 40, or 50 MT size on the name plate. If the suspect solenoid is used, remove it and replace with a new 7T8854 Solenoid Assembly. This Solenoid includes a clamp to be installed around the rubber boot between the solenoid and starter. Tighten this clamp securely with pliers. Users should inspect their stocks too. C. Any new starters with this solenoid received during the next several months should be inspected. Most, but not all, parts stocks in Caterpillar facilities have already been inspected. Warranty Allowances Submit one claim for all suspect solenoids in your parts stocks. For starters reworked in stocks with new 7T8854 Solenoids, list 1.0 hr. for each group of 4 starters reworked. Parts Disposition U.S. Dealers only are asked to return all solenoids to: Caterpillar Tractor Co. Service Returns Warehouse No. 4, Docks 5-9 8201 N. University Peoria, IL 61615 All other dealers should dispose of the solenoids in accordance with their Warranty Bulletin on warranty parts disposition. Termination Date June 30, 1985.
