Investigate the travel route for overpass clearances. Make sure there will be adequate clearance if the machine being transported is equipped with a ROPS, cab or canopy. To prevent the machine from slipping while loading or shifting in transit, remove ice, snow or other slippery material from the loading dock and the truck bed before loading.
Obey all state and local laws governing the weight, width and length of a load.Observe all regulations governing wide loads.
Basic machine shipping specifications (approximate) are listed below.IT18 and IT18B
IT28 and IT28B
Block the trailer or rail car wheels before loading. After the machine is in position on the transport vehicle, connect the steering frame lock link to hold the articulated frame rigid.Lower the implements onto the floor of the transport vehicle and shift the transmission to NEUTRAL.Engage the transmission control lock.Engage the parking/secondary brake.Stop the engine. Remove the power switch key.Turn the disconnect switch off and remove the key.Block the tires and secure the machine with tie-downs when transporting on a rail car or on a tractor trailer.Cover the exhaust opening or secure the rain cap to prevent the turbocharger from "windmilling" in transit.Roading
Before roading a machine, consult your tire dealer for recommended tire pressures and speed limitations."TON km/h" (TON MPH) limitations must be observed. Consult your tire dealer for the speed limit of the tires involved. When traveling long distances with an IT18 or IT18B, stop every 25 km (15 miles) or 1 hour for 15 minutes to allow the tires and components to cool. When traveling long distances with an IT28 or IT28B, stop every 40 km (12.5 miles) or 1 hour for 15 minutes to allow the tires and components to cool.Raise and lower bucket once a minute for 10 minutes to cool the hydraulic oil.Inflate the tires to the correct pressure.Use a self-attaching inflation chuck and stand behind the tire tread while inflating the tire. See the "Tire Inflation Information" section in this publication.Perform a "Walk-Around Inspection" and measure the fluid levels in the various compartments.Bring the engine coolant, the crankcase oil and the transmission oil up to the correct levels.Check with the proper officials to obtain the required permits, etc.Travel at a moderate speed. Observe all speed limitations when roading the machine.
