Start By:
Connect the steering frame lock. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Steering Frame Lock - Separate and Connect".
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Note: Put identification marks on all lines, on all hoses, on all wires and on all tubes for installation purposes. Plug all lines, all hoses and all tubes. This helps to prevent fluid loss and this helps to keep contaminants from entering the system.

Remove four bolts (1) and ladder assembly (2) .

Attach a hoist and suitable lifting slings to fender assembly (3), as shown.

Remove bolts (4) .

Remove bolts (5), (6), and (7) .
Use the hoist to remove fender assembly (3). The weight of fender assembly (3) is 86 kg (190 lb).

Disconnect two hose assemblies (8) from the parking brake valve.
Disconnect three hose assemblies (9) from the brake accumulator charge valve.
Remove bolt (10). Disconnect tube assembly (11) from the tee fitting.
Disconnect clevis (12) from the parking brake valve.
Disconnect electrical connector (14) and electrical connectors (15) .
Remove three bolts (13) and mounting plate (16) .

Remove bolts (17) and the clamps. Place the harness assembly aside.

Install Tooling (A) on fuel tank (18), as shown. Attach a hoist and suitable lifting slings to Tooling (A) .

Disconnect fuel lines (20) .

Remove lower mounting bolts (21) .

Remove upper mounting bolts (22) .
Use the hoist to remove fuel tank (18). The weight of empty fuel tank (18) is 215 kg (475 lb).
