There have been isolated instances of the engine oil pressure in certain machines momentarily dropping below the warning lamp trigger. The warning lamp may trigger under the following conditions:
Periods of high engine speed/load
High engine oil temperatureThe dip in the engine oil pressure below the threshold value can result in an E360 Low engine oil pressure event.Engine oil grade (specifically the use of 10W30 engine oil) has been shown to be a contributing factor in some cases.Solution
Cat recommends the use the following CAT DEO-ULS SAE 15W40 engine oil for engines that suffer repeated Low Engine Oil Pressure warnings. The use of a higher viscosity oil has been shown to reduce the likelihood of the Low Oil Pressure warning alarm being repeatedly triggered. This solution is not appropriate for machines operating in temperatures below −9.5° C (15° F).In certain conditions, a change from 10W30 to 15W40 engine oil type will increase the engine oil pressure. This change can reduce the likelihood of a low oil pressure alarm warning. Follow Step 1 through Step 3 in order to investigate for the appropriate conditions to change from 10W30 to 15W40 engine oil type.
Inspect the engine oil level. If necessary, add oil refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Engine Oil Level - Check" for the correct procedure.
Check that both the engine oil filter and the engine oil have not exceeded the appropriate service schedules. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Maintenance Interval Schedule" for the information.
If machine is operating in temperatures above −9.5° C (15° F), change the engine oil to CAT DEO-ULS SAE 15W40. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Lubricant Viscosities - Fluids Recommendations".
