Inspect the coolant making sure that the coolantis not too hot or under any pressure before the radiator cap is removed.
If the coolant is dark or blackish in color theunit will need to be drained and flushed per the rework procedure below.
If the unit has a red color to the glycol thena Level 2 analysis will need to be sent to the lab and tested to determineif it is ELC or DEAC.
If the unit is DEAC then nothing else is needed.
If the unit has ELC the unit will need to be drainedand flushed per the rework procedure below.
Drain or pump all coolant completely from boththe jacket water circuit and the aftercooler circuit. Ensure that the fluidsare contained during performance of inspection and the repair. Collectthe fluids in suitable containers. Dispose of this coolant in accordancewith the environmental regulations and your specific dealer procedures.
Flush both circuits with clean water. Continueto flush the system until all signs of the original coolant are gone. Toproperly flush the coolant system the unit might have to be run to thoroughlyflush the entire system.
Install Caterpillar DEAC mix. See Table 1.
Run the engine while the cooling system fillercap is removed to ensure complete aeration and then replace the cap. Operatethe engine to reach normal operating temperature and the coolant levelstabilizes. Top off the coolant circuit as needed to obtain correct coolantlevel.
