System Operation Description:Use this procedure to troubleshoot the electrical system if a problem is suspected with the idle shutdown timer or if the diagnostic code in Table 1 is active or easily repeated.

1682-02 Idle Shutdown Timer Switch loss of signal     The Electronic Control Module (ECM) detects an invalid state for the idle shutdown timer switch for five seconds.     The code is logged.
The feature is disabled.
If the condition is detected during the idle shutdown mode, the engine will be shutdown.    
1682-07 Idle Shutdown Timer Switch not responding properly     The ECM detects an improper state for the idle shutdown timer switch for five seconds.
This code can be caused by holding the momentary switch in the SET position for five seconds.     The code is logged.
The feature is disabled.
If the condition is detected during the idle shutdown mode, the timer will be allowed to time out.    The idle shutdown timer allows the engine to continue running at low idle after the keyswitch has been turned off. This allows the turbocharger to cool down prior to engine shutdown. This will prolong the life of the turbocharger without requiring the operator to stay with the machine.When the idle shutdown timer is activated, the engine ECM will remain powered after the keyswitch is turned to the OFF position. In order to activate the idle shutdown timer, momentarily switch the idle shutdown timer switch to the SET position and release the momentary switch to the ON position. While the system is activated, turn the keyswitch to the OFF position. The timer will begin to count down.The following conditions must be met in order to activate the idle shutdown timer:
The parking brake must be engaged.
PTO must not be engaged.
The inching pedal must not be depressed.
The transmission shift lever must be in the PARK position.
The engine must be at low idle.Once these conditions have been met, the feature can be activated with the idle shutdown timer switch. If one of the above conditions are changed prior to turning the keyswitch to the OFF position, the timer will be disengaged. Also, the idle shutdown time may be reset at any time during the countdown by momentarily switching the idle shutdown timer switch to the SET position. The idle time that remains will be reset to the programmed idle shutdown time. The idle shutdown timer is deactivated if any of the following conditions become present:
The parking brake is disengaged.
The inching pedal is depressed.
The transmission shift lever is not in the PARK position.
The keyswitch is switched to the ON position.
The idle shutdown timer switch is switched to OFF position.When the counter for the idle shutdown timer reaches the "Idle Shutdown Time", the ECM shuts down the engine by disabling injection. The ECM will be powered down five seconds after the engine is shutdown. The "Idle Shutdown Time" parameter can be programmed from 1 to 20
