Removal Procedure
Start By:
Remove the air inlet manifold. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Air Inlet Manifold - Remove and Install".
Remove the exhaust elbows. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Exhaust Elbow - Remove and Install".
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Note: It is possible to remove the exhaust manifolds without removing the air inlet manifold first. However, the procedure is more difficult.

Remove bolts (3), nuts (7), and the washers from manifold (6).
Remove manifold (6).
Remove bolts (2), spacers (4), and the washers that attach exhaust manifold (1) to the cylinder heads. Remove gaskets (5).
Attach a suitable lifting device to exhaust manifold (6). The weight of exhaust manifold (1) is approximately 125 kg (275 lb).
Lift exhaust manifold (1) from the engine. Installation Procedure

Attach a suitable lifting device to exhaust manifold (1). The weight of exhaust manifold (1) is approximately 125 kg (275 lb).
Position exhaust manifold (1) onto the engine.
Install new gaskets (5) for the joints between exhaust manifold (1) and the cylinder heads. Apply Tooling (A) to bolts (2). Install bolts (2), spacers (4), and the washers that attach exhaust manifold (1) to the cylinder head. Tighten bolts (2) to a torque of 50 5 N m (37 4 lb ft).
Install manifold (6).
Install bolts (3), nuts (7), and the washers for manifold (6). Tighten bolts (3) to a torque of 55 10 N m (41 7 lb ft). End By:
Install the exhaust elbows. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Exhaust Elbow - Remove and Install".
Install the air inlet manifold. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Air Inlet Manifold - Remove and Install".
