BOLT 1483887 - Caterpillar

Inhaling air conditioner refrigerant gas through a lit cigarette or other smoking method or inhaling fumes released from a flame contacting air conditioner refrigerant gas can cause personal injury or death. Do not smoke when servicing air conditioners or wherever refrigerant gas may be present.
To prevent leakage of refrigerant from a dry seal in the compressor, the air conditioning system should be tested.
Start the engine. Operate the engine at HIGH IDLE.

Turn temperature control knob (2) to the maximum cool position. Turn fan speed knob (1) to THIRD (high) speed on the cooling side.
In order to stabilize the air conditioning system, run the air conditioning system for two minutes.

For machines 7LL1-98, the air conditioning compressor is mounted on the rear of the engine next to the alternator. For machines, 7LL99-UP, the air conditioning compressor is located in the cab support. Check for refrigerant in the air conditioning system, as follows:
Feel suction line (3) and feel discharge line (4) .
If the system contains refrigerant, the discharge line is warmer than the suction line.
If the air conditioning system does not contain refrigerant or if the level of the refrigerant in the air conditioning system is very low, then you will experience poor cooling.
Stop the engine.
Consult your Caterpillar dealer for air conditioner system service, if necessary.
