Start By:a. remove fan assemblyb. remove hydraulic oil cooler In the following procedure, the counterweight has been removed for better photo illustration. Fluid Spillage ContainmentCare must be taken to ensure that the fluids are contained during performance of the inspection, the maintenance, the testing, the adjusting and the repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any of the components containing fluids. Refer to the "Tools And Shop Products Guide", NENG2500 for the tools and the supplies suitable to collect and contain any of the fluids in Caterpillar machines. Dispose of the fluids according to local regulations and mandates. 1. Remove bolt (1), the washer and nut that hold support (2) to the radiator. Remove the bolt, washer and nut from the support on the right side of the radiator.

At operating temperature, the engine coolant is hot and under pressure. Steam can cause personal injury. Check the coolant level only after the engine has been stopped and the fill cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand. Remove the fill cap slowly to relieve pressure in the cooling system. Coolant conditioner contains alkali. Avoid contact with skin and eyes to prevent personal injury.
2. Drain the coolant from the cooling system into a suitable container for storage or disposal. The capacity of the cooling system is 25 liters (6.6 U.S. gal).3. Remove clamp (3). Disconnect hose assembly (5) from the bottom of the radiator.4. Remove four bolts (4) and the washers that hold the radiator to the frame of the machine.
Do not damage the radiator core when it is removed or installed in the machine.
5. Fasten Tool (A) and a hoist to radiator (6) a shown. Carefully remove the radiator from the machine. The weight of the radiator is 88 kg (195 lb). The following steps are for the installation of the radiator.6. Check the condition of the radiator prior to the installation. Remove any dirt or debris that may restrict the flow of air through the core. If any of the cooling fins are bent, they should be straightened. 7. Fasten Tool (A) and a hoist to radiator (6). Carefully install the radiator in the machine.
View From Under Machine8. Install four bolts (4) and the washers that hold the radiator to the frame of the machine.9. Connect hose assembly (5) to the bottom of the radiator. Install clamp (3). 10. Connect supports (2) to each side of the radiator using bolts (1), the washers and nuts. Refer to the Topic "Lubricant Viscosities and Refill Capacities" in the "Operation and Maintenance Manual" for the proper filling procedure and the proper levels for the hydraulic oil system and the coolant system.11.
