Never bend the eyebolts and the brackets. Only load the eyebolts and the brackets under tension. Remember that the capacity of an eyebolt is less as the angle between the supporting members and the object becomes less than 90 degrees.When it is necessary to remove a component at an angle, only use a link bracket that is properly rated for the weight.
Lifting the Engine

(1) Engine lifting eyes (distance between lifting eyes is 1768 mm (69.6 inch)Use a hoist to remove heavy components. Use an adjustable lifting beam to lift the engine. All supporting members (chains and cables) should be parallel to each other. The chains and cables should be perpendicular to the top of the object that is being lifted.Some removals require lifting the fixtures to obtain proper balance and safety.To remove the engine only, use the lifting eyes that are on the engine.Note: The engine center of gravity will change depending on engine attachments. Adjust the lifting devices/spreader bar as necessary to maintain a lift angle within 5 degrees of horizontal in all directions.Lifting eyes are designed and installed for the specific engine arrangement. Alterations to the lifting eyes and/or the engine make the lifting eyes and the lifting fixtures obsolete. If alterations are made, ensure that proper lifting devices are provided. Consult your Cat dealer for information regarding fixtures for proper engine lifting.Note: Do Not lift the engine from the DOC and muffler assembly lifting points.

To lift the DOC and Mufflers, detach all air and exhaust lines connecting to the engine or rear castings. Add eyebolts or lifting brackets to the threaded holes indicated in illustration 3. Be sure to use an appropriate spreader bar set so lifting chains are oriented as shown on lifting stickers, refer to illustration 3. With chains attached to eyebolts or lifting brackets, detach upper frame from support castings and air cleaner. Lift vertically to clear all engine-mounted components prior to moving in other directions.
