Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.Dispose of fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Location of the Crossline Relief Valve (1) Crossline relief valve. (3) Crossline relief valve manifold.
Steering Cylinder (1) Crossline relief valve.(2) Locknut.(3) Crossline relief valve manifold.To check the crossline relief pressure in each steering cylinder, perform the following procedure:1. Put the machine in the straight ahead position and engage the parking brake.2. Install the steering frame lock so that the machine can not turn. Stop the engine. Put identification marks on the hoses for installation purposes.3. Disconnect the hose for the rod end of the steering cylinder from crossline relief valve manifold (3). Connect an electric or pneumatic external hydraulic pump with a 0 to 28 000 kPa (0 to 4000 psi) gauge to the fitting on the relief valve manifold.4. Disconnect the hose for the head end of the steering cylinder from crossline relief valve manifold (3). Connect a suitable hose to the manifold. Attach a container to the hose to catch the oil from the manifold.5. Operate the hydraulic pump until the crossline relief valve opens and note the reading on the gauge. The pressure should be 19 305 345 kPa (2800 50 psi).6. If the pressure setting is incorrect, loosen locknut (2). Turn the adjusting screw clockwise to increase the pressure setting and counterclockwise to decrease the pressure setting.7. Once the correct pressure is obtained, tighten locknut (2) and re-check the crossline relief valve pressure.8. If necessary, perform Steps 3 to 7 for the crossline relief valve on the other steering cylinder.9. Connect the hose for the head end of the steering cylinder to crossline relief valve manifold (3).10. Connect the hose for the rod end of the steering cylinder to crossline relief valve manifold (3).11. Fill the steering tank.
