Removal Procedure
Start By:
Remove the flywheel. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, " Flywheel - Remove".
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Support the engine with blocks or a suitable lifting device.

Attach a suitable lifting device to flywheel housing (2). The weight of the flywheel housing is approximately 30 kg (66 lb).
Remove bolts (1) .
Remove flywheel housing (2) from dowel pins (3). Installation Procedure

Apply Tooling (A) to the O-ring seal on the rear seal carrier.
Apply Tooling (B) to the face of the cylinder block.

Attach a suitable lifting device to flywheel housing (2). The weight of the flywheel housing is approximately 30 kg (66 lb).
Position flywheel housing (2) on dowel pins (3) .
Install bolts (1) .End By: Install the flywheel. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, " Flywheel - Install".
