Start By:
Remove the hydraulic fan piston motor. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Fan and Piston Motor (Hydraulic Fan) - Remove".Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the disassembly procedure, the exterior of the component should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Remove plug (1) , the O-ring seal, plug (2) , the O-ring seal, and sensor assembly (3) .

Personal injury can result from being struck by parts propelled by a released spring force.Make sure to wear all necessary protective equipment.Follow the recommended procedure and use all recommended tooling to release the spring force.
Remove bolts (4) and head (5) .

Remove port plate (6) from head (5) .

Remove O-ring seal (7) .
Remove plug (8) from barrel (9) and install Tooling (A) .Note: Tooling (A) will keep the rotating group together while the rotating group is being removed from the pump housing.

Use Tooling (B) to remove retaining ring (10) .
Use Tooling (C) to remove retaining ring (11) .
Remove cover (12) and O-ring seal (13) (not shown).

Remove seal (14) from cover (13) .

Use Tooling (D) in order to remove the rotating group from the pump housing.

Remove Tooling (A) and the barrel assembly from the rotating group.
Remove spring (15) and spacer (16) from barrel (9) .

Place shaft assembly (23) into a suitable press.
Remove bearing (24) , ring bearing (25) , shim kit (27) , the bearing cone, and bearing cup (28) from shaft assembly (23) .Note: Bearing cone (28) will be destroyed when bearing (28) is separated from shaft assembly (23) .
Remove slipper (29) and spring (30) .
