The timing control system has two programmable parameters. The desired timing parameter and the speed timing map parameter affect the performance of the ignition system. The parameters may be changed with the Digital Diagnostic Tool (DDT). The programmed values are stored in the memory of the Timing Control Module (TCM). These parameters allow the operator to tailor the ignition system to the application.The operator should become familiar with the effects of each parameter. Incorrect programming of the parameters may lead to complaints about the power and the performance. The appropriate parameters must be programmed into the new module if the TCM is replaced.
