Troubleshooting Test Steps Value Results
1. Check for Associated Codes
A. Establish a connection between Cat® Electronic Technician (ET) and the Electronic Control Module (ECM).
B. Download the "Warranty Report" from the engine ECM before troubleshooting or clearing any diagnostic codes.
C. If any of the associated codes in Table 1 are logged, troubleshoot the codes before continuing with this procedure.
Codes
Result: An associated code is not active or logged.
Proceed to Test Step 2.
Result: An associated code is active or logged.
Repair: Troubleshoot the associated code.
If the problem is not resolved, proceed to Test Step 2.
2. Replace the Fuel Filter
A. Determine which fuel filter is restricted.
B. Replace the restricted fuel filter.
C. Start the engine and allow the engine to run to normal operating temperatures.
Fuel filter
Result: No fuel filter related codes are present.
Return the machine to service.
Result: Fuel filter related codes are present.
Repair: A problem with the sensor or wiring has been detected. Refer to Troubleshooting, Sensor Signal (Analog, Active) - Test.
