Perform the procedure before hazardous voltage connectors are disconnected.Test Step 1. VERIFY HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE PART NUMBERS
If new software has been flashed to the Generator ECM recently or if a new ECM has been installed, verify that the part number of the new software is correct. Verify that the part number for the new ECM is correct.Expected Result:The ECM is the correct part number and the software program that was flashed to the ECM is correct.Results:
OK - All part numbers are correct for the ECM and the software. Proceed to Test Step 2.
NOT OK - The part numbers are NOT correct. The Generator ECM has the wrong part number or incorrect configuration software is installed.Repair: Replace the ECM with a module that has the correct part number or flash the correct configuration software. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Electronic Control Module (ECM) - Flash Program" or refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Electronic Control Module (ECM) - Replace".STOPTest Step 2. INSPECT HARNESS CONNECTIONS
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Refer to the connection diagram at the beginning of this procedure. Inspect the harness connections that are related to the location codes for the Generator ECM. Make sure that the connectors are clean, dry, and tight.
Check all wires at the connector.
Check each wire for nicks. Check each wire for signs of abrasion in the insulation.
Ensure that each of the ground circuit wires are securely seated in the ECM connector.Expected Result:No visible problems are present at the ECM J1 connection for the location code circuits.Results:
OK - The machine harness connections for the location code ground circuits are in good condition. Proceed to Test Step 3.
NOT OK - One or more of the machine harness connections for the location code ground circuits is in need of repair.Repair: Repair the connector or the location code circuit that is not in good condition. Verify that all connections are correct before reconnecting to the mating connector. After the connector is repaired, verify that the problem has been corrected before operating the machine.STOPTest Step 3. CHECK THE LOCATION CODE CIRCUITS
The disconnect switch and the key start switch remain in the OFF position.
Disconnect the machine harness connector J1 from the Generator ECM.
At the machine harness connector J1 for the Generator ECM, measure the resistance between a good frame ground contact point and the location code contacts. These points are illustrated in the diagram at the beginning of this procedure.Expected Result:The resistance that is measured between frame ground and contacts J1-35 and J1-40 is less than 5 ohms.The resistance that is measured between frame ground and contacts J1-41 and J1-42 is greater than
