Remove the rocker shaft and the pushrod.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Drain the coolant. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Coolant (NGEC) - Change" for the correct draining and filling procedure.

Remove bolts (1) and plate (2).Note: More than one plate may need to be removed.

Remove shield assemblies (3).

If necessary, remove the thermocouples from exhaust manifold (6).
Remove bolts (5).
Remove bolts (7).
Slide flanges (8) back from bellows (9).
Remove exhaust manifold (6) and the seal from cylinder head (4).

Remove bolts (11) to remove cover assembly (10) from cylinder head (4).

Remove gasket (12) and O-ring seals (13) from cylinder head (4).

Remove elbow (16) and the O-ring seals.
Remove bolts (15) to disconnect adapter assembly (14).

Remove bolts (17) from cylinder head (4).

Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to cylinder head (4). The weight of cylinder head (4) is approximately 50 kg (110 lb).
Remove bolts (18) and cylinder head (4).

Remove head gasket (19), seals (20), seals (21), and O-ring seal (23) from spacer plate (22).
Remove spacer plate (22).

Remove O-ring seal (25) and gasket (24) from the engine block.Installation Procedure
Install cylinder head (4) in the reverse order of removal.

Apply clean engine oil to the threads of bolts (17).Note: Only use clean engine oil as a lubricant for threads.
Tighten bolts (17) in the numerical sequence shown to a torque of 30 5 N m (266 44 lb in).
Tighten bolts (17) in the numerical sequence shown to a torque of 200 15 N m (148 11 lb ft).
Retighten bolts (17) in the numerical sequence shown to a torque of 200 15 N m (148 11 lb ft).
Turn bolts (17) in the numerical sequence shown to an angle of 180 &plus
