When the machine is lifted, transported on another vehicle or service work is being performed near the center of the machine, connect steering frame lock link between front and rear frames to keep the machine in a straight ahead position. Before operating and when operating, be sure steering frame lock, located near the lower center of the machine is disconnected and pinned to the retaining plates.
Start By:a. remove engine guardb. remove front drive shaft FLUID SPILLAGE CONTAINMENTCare must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to "TOOLS AND SHOP PRODUCT GUIDE, NENG2500", for Tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines. Dispose fluids according to local regulations and mandates.1. Put wood blocks behind the rear tires of the truck for blocking. 2. Raise the front of the machine using Tool (A).3. Remove two front tires.4. Make sure that Tool (B) is secure under the axle housing. 5. Disconnect and cap front brake hose assembly (2).6. Disconnect front axle housing breather hose (1). 7. Attach Tooling (D) to the axle housing. Use Tooling (C) to connect the axle housing to a suitable spreader bar and lifting device.8. Place a suitable dolly (3) under the axle housing. 9. Remove four bolts (4) from both ends of the axle. Remove the axle housing. The weight of the axle housing is 1045 kg (2300 lb) for the D250E. 10. Remove four dowels (5) from the suspension arm or the axle housing. The following steps are for the installation of the front axle housing. 11. Install four dowels (5) in the suspension arm. 12. Install Tooling (D) on each end of the axle housing. Attach the axle housing to a suitable lifting device using Tooling (C). Put the axle housing in position next to the suspension arms. It may be necessary to use two 7/8 in - 9 - 11 Guide Bolts to help align the axle housing with the suspension arms. 13. Install bolts (4) to secure the front axle housing to the suspension arms. 14. Connect front axle breather hose (1).15. Connect front brake hose assembly (2).16. Install tires and rims.17. Lower the front of the machine using Tooling (A).18. Remove the blocks from behind the rear wheels of the truck.End By:a. install front drive shaftb. install engine guard Refer to the Operation & Maintenance Manual for all fluid capacities and the proper filling procedures.
