D350E SERIES II (2XW1-UP),
D400E SERIES II (8PS1-UP),
D400E SERIES II EJECTOR (APF1-UP) ARTICULATED TRUCKSProblem:
Among several of the features incorporated in the Power Train Electronic Control System is a Tattletale Function. The purpose of this function is to record certain events. When technicians interrogate the Power Train Electronic Control System and download the event list they often find a fault designated: E047 TRANSMISSION ABUSE . The event log may show occurrences with a number up to a maximum of 127.Solution:
When the gear shift lever is moved, either into, out of or through neutral with the actual engine speed above 1500 RPM, a TRANSMISION ABUSE will be recorded in the control. An example, of when this situation may occur, is during the dump operation. After the dump body has been fully raised, with the engine at high RPM, the operator will let off the throttle pedal, and while the engine RPM is still cycling down, shifts the gear lever from neutral to first speed while the engine is still above 1500 RPM. Another instance when shift abuse may occur is when the operator brings the vehicle to a halt. In anticipation of going into reverse, the operator may shift the lever through neutral while the engine RPM is still above 1500 RPM. The shift inhibitor will only allow the control to shift to neutral if the vehicle speed is under 5 mph, and to reverse once the vehicle speed is under 3 mph. The TRANSMISSION ABUSE will be recorded if the engine is above 1500 RPM during either the shift through neutral or the shift to reverse. In summary, the TRANSMISSION ABUSE log is telling of events where a gearshift has been made with the engine above 1500RPM. When the number of the occurrences is 127, the recorder is full and cannot count any more events, though it is probable that more are occurring. The clock readings for the first and last event will be correct. When a TRANSMISSION ABUSE is recorded, there will be increased risk of reduced component life because the transmission is not being operated correctly. Improved operator understanding and training will reduce these events and improve component life.
