Hot oil and hot components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or hot components to contact skin.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Note: Operate the transmission until the torque converter and transmission oil is warm.

Remove breather cap (2) in order to prevent a vacuum while the oil is draining from the transmission case.

(3) Ecology drain plug
Remove ecology drain plug (3) from the bottom of the transmission.
Install a drain with a hose into the ecology drain and allow the oil to drain into a suitable container. Note: A drain swivel assembly 176-6545 and hose is available from your Cat dealer.
After the oil has drained from the transmission case, clean ecology drain plug.
Remove the drain and hose from the ecology drain.
Install the ecology drain plug and tighten to 100 20 N m (74 15 lb ft).
Fill the transmission case with oil. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Lubricant Viscosities" and Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Capacities (Refill)".
Ensure that the transmission is in the NEUTRAL position. Crank the engine for 15 seconds. Do not allow the engine to start.
Check the oil level with sight gauge (1) on the side of the transmission case. Repeat Step 7 through Step 8 until the oil level is between the "ADD" mark and the "FULL" mark on the "COLD" side of sight gauge (1).
Install filler cap (2).
Start the engine and operate the engine at LOW IDLE. Check for leaks and make necessary repairs.
Observe the oil level when the oil is warm and the transmission is in the NEUTRAL position.
Maintain the oil level between the "ADD" mark and the "FULL" mark on "HOT" side of the sight gauge.
Stop the engine and add oil, if necessary.
Failure to properly fill the transmission tank after an oil change may cause damage to the transmission clutches. Follow the procedure that is described above.The transmission direction and speed control MUST be left in NEUTRAL until the system is full.
