(1) Thermal Bypass Valve (4) Hydraulic Oil Cooler (7) Fan Drive Motor (8) Fan Drive Pump (9) Line to Steering Charge PumpReturn oil from the fan drive motor (7) enters the hydraulic oil cooler (4) through inlet (6). When the oil is cold, the thermal bypass valve (1) remains open and the oil passes through outlet (5) and returns to the steering charge pump (9). When the oil is warm, the thermal bypass valve (1) closes against the seat. This forces the warm oil through the hydraulic oil cooler (4). The cooled oil then flows to outlet (5) through the large horizontal tube (3) .Closing temperature for the thermal bypass valve is 62 to 65 °C (144 to 149 °F). When the valve is closed, the valve will open in the event of pressure spikes in the system. This will allow oil to bypass the cooler. Opening pressure for the valve is 620 kPa (90 psi) at a temperature of 71 °C (160 °F).
