Install spring pin (16a) in the end of the pinion shaft.

Install the shim pack that was determined in Steps 21.a through 21.h.
Use two people to install carrier assembly (17) on the pinion shaft.
Make sure that the spring pin hole in retainer (16) engages with spring pin (16a) .
Make sure that the shims and retainer (16) are in contact with the end of the pinion shaft and that spring pin (16a) does not protrude above retainer (16) .
Apply Tooling (F) on the threads of bolt (14) .
Install lock washer (15) and bolt (14) in threaded hole in the end of the pinion shaft. Tighten bolt (14) to a torque of 181 25 N m (133 18 lb ft).
Bend lock washer (15) at a right angle against one of the flats on the bolt head (14) . Do not scratch the surface of retainer (16) .

Make sure that the mating surface of ring gear (13) and the swing drive housing are thoroughly clean and dry.
Apply Tooling (G) on the flange surface of the swing drive housing and the ring gear.
Use two people to install ring gear (13) in the original position on the swing drive housing. It may be necessary to rotate the ring gear during installation in order to engage the ring gear with the planetary gears in carrier assembly (17) .
Assemble carrier assembly (4) , as follows:

Install lower retaining ring (11) in the lower groove of sun gear (12) .

Install sun gear (12) in the carrier.
Install upper retaining ring (11) in sun gear (12) in order to hold the sun gear in position in the carrier.

Apply clean SAE 30W oil on bearing (10) . Install bearing (10) in planetary gear (7) .
Install a thrust washer (9) on each side of planetary gear (7) .
Use a deburring tool in order to remove the metal burr from the openings in the carrier.
Install the planetary gear and the thrust washers in the carrier.

Install planetary shaft (10) through the gear assembly into the carrier assembly. Make sure that the spring pin hole in the planetary shaft is in alignment with the spring pin hole in the carrier.

Drive spring pin (8) into shaft (6) . Orient the split in spring pin (8) vertically to the carrier. Align the split in the spring pin to the top or to the bottom. Make a stake mark on each side of the spring pin hole in the carrier. Each stake mark should be approximately 2.25 0.75 mm (0.09 0.03 inch) from the outside diameter of the spring pin hole.
Repeat Steps 34.d through 34.i in order to install the remaining planetary gears (7) in the carrier.
Install carrier assembly (4) in the ring gear. It may be necessary to rotate the carrier assembly during installation so the planetary gears will engage with the ring gear properly. Make sure that the carrier assembly is all the way down.
