Remove the flywheel. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Flywheel - Remove".
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Support the engine with blocks or a suitable lifting device on a flat level surface.

Remove bolts (3) that fasten flywheel housing (7) to the cylinder block.
Install Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device on the flywheel housing.
Remove bolts (5) on each side of the cylinder block. These bolts fasten the flywheel housing to the cylinder block.
Remove bolts (1) that fasten backplate (2) to flywheel housing (7) .
Remove nuts (6) and bolts (not shown) that fasten backplate (2) to flywheel housing (7) .
Use a suitable lifting device to remove flywheel housing (7) from the cylinder block.
Remove bolts (4) that fasten backplate (2) to the cylinder block and remove the backplate from the cylinder block.Installation Procedure

Clean the rear face of the cylinder block and the face of flywheel housing (7). Inspect dowels (8) for damage. Replace the dowels, if necessary.
Align backplate (2) on dowels (8) that are on the rear of the cylinder block.
Install bolts (4) that fasten backplate (2) to the cylinder block.
Align flywheel housing (7) on dowels (8) that are on the rear of the cylinder block.
Install nuts (6) and bolts (not shown) that fasten the backplate to flywheel housing (7) .
Install bolts (1) that fasten backplate (2) to flywheel housing (7). Tighten bolts (1) to a torque of 25 N m (19 lb ft).
Install bolts (5) on each side of the cylinder block. These bolts fasten flywheel housing (7) to the cylinder block. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 25 N m (19 lb ft).
Remove Tooling (A) from the flywheel housing.
Install bolts (3) that fasten the flywheel housing to the cylinder block.End By: Install the flywheel. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Flywheel - Install".
