Reference: Refer to Schematic, UENR7508, "Marine Engine and Genset Control Panel II with EMCP 4.2 Electrical System" for further information on proper wiring and connections.Panel Does Not Power Up
The following are symptoms when the panel does not have power:
Engine does not start
EMCP controller is not onUse the following checks to address this issue:
Check to see if the panel isolation breaker has been tripped.
Check the power at the customer supplied power terminals. The power lines should have +24V (+) and should have 0V (-).
Check the voltage from the ship power supply. Checking voltage involves checking wiring and circuit breakers.
Check the connector on the back of the EMCP controller. Ensure that the connector is not crooked and is screwed securely in place.
Check the auxiliary breaker of the panel. Ensure that the breaker is closed and that the wiring is not damaged or disconnected.Note: The auxiliary breaker provides power to the controller.
Check the EMCP controller wiring. Ensure that there is 24V (+) on pins 18 and 52. Ensure that pins 60 and 65 have 0V (-). On the panel wiring terminals, ensure that X2.1:6 and X2.1:9 have 24 V (+). Ensure that X2.1:13 and X2.1:14 have 0V (-).Engine Does Not Start
Starting from the panel
Check the following when the engine cannot be started from the panel:
Check the EMCP controller for any alarms or shutdown events. Acknowledge and clear any shutdown events.Note: Shutdown events must be acknowledged and cleared before the engine is allowed to start. Refer to the Systems Operation, Troubleshooting, Test & Adjust, UENR1209, "EMCP4.1/EMCP4.2".
Check the E-Stop switches. Ensure that the physical E-Stop button is not depressed. Ensure that the remote E-Stop is not engaged if installed.
Check the E-Stop switch wiring.Note: If a remote E-Stop has been installed, it must be a "normally closed" switch. If a "normally open" switch has been installed or if the switch is faulty, the EMCP controller will constantly be in stop mode.
Check that the Crank Inhibit Switch is not engaged.
Check the Crank Inhibit Switch wiring.
Check the Starter Motor Mag Switch (SMMS) return wiring. Check for damage on the jumper wire between X2.1:33 and X2.1:35. Check the wiring between pin 42 on the C1 connector and X2.1:35. Check the wiring between pin 24
