The retrofit kit includes electronic sensors for EMCP II+ to measure engine coolant temperature, oil pressure, coolant level, and speed (RPM). The basic EMCP II+ system requires a coolant temperature sensor, an oil pressure sensor and an engine speed sensor (magnetic pick-up). This engine speed sensor (magnetic pick-up) must be dedicated solely to the EMCP II+.If required, an optional coolant loss sensor can be installed into the engine radiator. Additionally, if the generator set includes an electronic governor which requires a magnetic pick-up, a second MPU must be installed.Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor
102-0050 Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor (ECTS)To install the engine coolant temperature sensor, use the following procedure.1. Install the 102-0050 Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor (ECTS), into the engine block as close as possible to the engine thermostat (regulator) on the engine side of the thermostat, not on the radiator side. Choose a location after the water pump and engine thermostat (regulator), but as close to the thermostat as possible.2. The threads of the sensor are 1/2-14 NPT thread. Apply 5P-3413 Pipe Sealant on the threads. Only apply the thread sealant to external threads, not internal threads. Tighten the sensor to 45 N m (33 lb ft).Engine Oil Pressure Sensor
145-2362 Engine Oil Pressure Sensor (EOPS)The 145-2362 Engine Oil Pressure Sensor (EOPS) should be installed into an available port on the engine oil gallery. The sensor has an O-ring fitting with 7/16-20-2B thread. For most applications, an adapter will be required in order to convert the sensor O-ring fitting into a pipe thread fitting of the engine oil gallery. A 9X-0435 Adapter with a 6V-5048 O-ring are provided in order to convert the sensor thread to 1/4-18 pipe thread. An installation may require additional and/or different adapters. For other adaptors, see the Available Adapters chart.To install the engine oil pressure sensor, use the following procedure.1. Determine where in the engine oil gallery area to install the sensor. Acquire the necessary thread adapter to fit the sensor to the thread of the engine oil gallery.2. Prepare the necessary thread adapters. For pipe threads, apply 5P-3413 Pipe Sealant on the threads. Install the adaptor in the desired oil gallery port and tighten.3. Prepare to install the sensor. The sensor should be oriented so that the wires that exit the rear of the sensor are located at 12 o'clock (pointing upward). Do NOT apply thread sealant to the O-ring threads of the sensor. Install the sensor and tighten the sensor to 10 2 N m (7 1 lb ft).Engine Magnetic Pickup (MPU1)
4P-7610 Engine Magnetic Pickup (MPU1)The 4P-7610 Engine Magnetic Pickup (MPU1), should be installed into the engine flywheel housing so that rotational speed of the flywheel ring gear teeth can be monitored. The MPU has 5/8-18-2A threads. If the engine does not have provisions to mount the MPU1, you will need to drill and tap an appropriate size hole in the flywheel housing to match the MPU1.
