Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Note: Apply Tooling (G) to all bearings and the drive assembly. Apply a thin layer of clean engine oil to all other parts before assembly.

Install the O-ring seals on cylinder (53). Install cylinder (53) in motor housing (1). Ensure that pin (54) is in alignment with slot (55) in motor housing (1).

Install O-ring seals (52) on cylinder (53).

Install O-ring seal (51) on the rotor (48).

Use a suitable press to install bearing (49) and end plate (50) on rotor (49).

Install nut (43) on the rotor shaft with the shoulder toward the bearing.

Tighten nut (43) until there is 0.03 to 0.08 mm (0.001 to 0.003 inch) of clearance between the end plate and the rotor. Use a feeler gauge to check the clearance. Tighten bolt (44). Check the clearance again.

Install rotor (48) in motor housing (1) with the pinion end of the rotor toward the cylinder alignment pin. Ensure that pin (54) is in alignment with the hole in the end plate.

Install vanes (58) in the rotor.

Install end plate (47) on the rotor. Ensure that hole (56) in the end plate is in alignment with pin (57).

Install spring washers (46) in the end plate (47).

Install bearing (45) in end plate (47).

Install rotor pinion (41) and bolt (42) on the rotor shaft. Tighten the bolt to a torque of 120 N m (90 lb ft).

Install the O-ring seal on the motor housing. Position cover assembly (40) on motor housing (1).

Put bearing (32) and retaining ring (31) in position on drive shaft assembly (15).

Tooling (E)
Use Tooling (E) and a suitable press to install the retaining ring on the drive shaft.

Improper assembly of parts that are spring loaded can cause bodily injury.To prevent possible injury, follow the established assembly procedure and wear protective equipment.
Place bolt (22), lockwasher (23), washer (24), bearing (25), driving clutch jaw (26), driven clutch jaw (27), spring (28), and cup (29) in position on drive shaft assembly (15). Install retaining ring (30) on the drive shaft assembly.

Use Tooling (F) to install seal (19) in piston (12). Ensure that the lip of the seal is toward the outside of the piston.Note: Later air starting motors will not have bumper (20).
Install O-ring seal (21) and bumper (20) on piston (12).

Install piston (12) on drive shaft assembly (15). Install retaining ring (18) that holds the piston to the shaft assembly.

Install bulkhead (16) on piston (12).
