Install gear (15) and bearing (16) into carrier assembly (13). Remove Tooling (B). Align gear (15) and bearing (16) with the bore that is in carrier assembly (13).

Rotate gear (15) while shaft (14) is pressed into carrier assembly (13). Note: Support carrier assembly (13) in the locations that are indicated prior to the installation of shaft (14). Failure to properly support carrier assembly (13) can result in damage to carrier assembly (13).

Use Tooling (C) in order to measure the distance from the top of planetary carrier (13) to the top of shaft (14).

Install shims (12) that are of a thickness that is within 0.000 to 0.050 mm (0.0000 to 0.0020 inch) of the measurement that was determined in Step 7.

Install plate (11). Apply Tooling (D) onto bolts (10). Install bolts (10). Tighten bolts (10) to a torque of 255 15 N m (188 11.1 lb ft).
Repeat Step 5 through 9 for the remaining gears.

Install retaining ring (9) into gear (6).

Lower the temperature of bearing cup (8). Install bearing cup (8). Allow bearing cup (8) to warm to room temperature. Ensure that bearing cup (8) is seated into gear (6). Install bearing cone (7). Repeat this procedure for bearing cup (8) and bearing cone (7) on the opposite side of gear (6). Note: The bearing cone and the bearing cup are a matched set. Do not mix the parts during the assembly procedure.

Use a suitable lifting device in order to position planetary carrier (1) into a suitable press. The weight of planetary carrier (1) is approximately 272 kg (600 lb). Note: Support planetary carrier (1) in the locations that are indicated prior to the installation of shaft (5). Failure to properly support planetary carrier (1) can result in damage to planetary carrier (1).
Install gear (6). Align gear (6) with the bore that is in planetary carrier (1).
Install shaft (5) with the location hole toward the outside edge of planetary carrier (1). Rotate gear (6) as shaft (5) is pressed into planetary carrier (1).
Repeat Step 11 through Step 15 for the remaining gears (6).

Use Tooling (C) in order to measure the distance from the top of planetary carrier (1) to the top of shaft (5).

Install shims (4) that are of a thickness that is within 0.000 to 0.050 mm (0.0000 to 0.0020 inch) of the measurement that was determined in Step 17.

Install plate (3). Apply Tooling (D) onto bolts (2). Install bolts (2). Tighten bolts (2) to a torque of 135 15 N m (100 11 lb ft).
Repeat Steps 17 through 19 for the remaining planetary gears. End By:
