Engine Removal And Installation
Refer to SERVICE GUIDE for Preliminary Information.
Always install lift arm support bracket when working under raised lift arms or bucket.
LIFT ARM SUPPORT BRACKET LOCATIONLift arm support bracket is stored behind sheet metal cover under fuel tank.
LIFT ARM SUPPORT BRACKET INSTALLEDRemoval
Remove radiator guard and radiator. See the covering topic.
FLEXIBLE DRIVE FLANGE BOLTS
1-Flexible drive coupling-to-torque converter drive flange bolts. Remove bolts, (eight). At installation, refer to the topic, FLEXIBLE DRIVE COUPLING in the POWER TRAIN DISASSEMBLY AND ASSEMBLY
PREPARING TO REMOVE ENGINE (Right Side)
2-Wiring. Remove cover and disconnect wires. 3-Glow plug wire. 4-Oil pressure indicator line. 5-Governor linkage. 6-Battery cable. 7-Ground cable. 8-Fuel line. Disconnect at fuel transfer pump. 9-Engine mounting bolts. Front and rear, remove.
PREPARING TO REMOVE ENGINE (Left Side)
10-Air cleaner indicator line. 11-Water temperature indicator bulb and tube. Disconnect at engine, loosely coil tube and tie to loader frame. 12-Hydraulic pump oil lines. Drain hydraulic system. 13-Torque converter oil cooler lines. 14-Engine mounting bolts, front and rear.
REMOVING THE ENGINEAttach a hoist to lifting eyes and remove the engine. Approximate weight 2000 lbs. (910 mkg). Tag shims at each mounting location for identification at engine installation.Installation
Position the diesel engine between the main frames and work it back and down into position in the frame. Install the same shims under the mounting flanges or the amount of shims as stamped on top of the main frame at each of the four mounting locations. Dowels in addition to the bolts should be installed to hold the engine in the proper location if the holes for the mounting bolts are enlarged.Install all oil and fuel lines, gauges, rods and other parts which were removed or disconnected.
