Information:

Personal injury or death can result from sudden machine movement.Sudden movement of the machine or release of air pressure or oil pressure can cause injury to persons on or near the machine. To help prevent possible injury before testing and adjusting any air system or hydraulic system, perform the procedure in the Testing and Adjusting, "General Information" section.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Automatic lubrication injector (1) Adjusting screw (2) Locknut (3) Threaded plug for the adjusting screw (4) Piston assembly (5) Discharge chamberThe amount of lubricant that is supplied to the bearing is determined by the volume of lubricant in discharge chamber (5). This volume is controlled by the setting of adjusting screw (1). Adjusting screw (1) controls the travel of piston assembly (4). When you turn adjusting screw (1) clockwise, the amount of lubricant that is injected decreases. When you turn adjusting screw (1) counterclockwise, the amount of lubricant that is injected increases.Note: One 360 degree turn of the adjusting screw is equal to approximately 0.10 cc (.006 cubic inch) of lubricant.Movement of piston assembly (4) indicates that the automatic lubrication injector is working. When the injector discharges lubricant, piston assembly (4) moves into threaded plug (3) for adjusting screw (1). When discharge chamber (5) is filling with lubricant, piston assembly (4) moves back out of the threaded plug for adjusting screw (1) until piston assembly (4) rests against the end of adjusting screw (1) .Adjustment
Pressurized lubricant can cause personal injury. During injection, the lube lines are pressurized to 17 000 kPa (2500 psi).To avoid possible injury, make sure that the lines are not pressurized before adjusting the lube injectors.
If an automatic lubrication injector has been repaired or an injector has been replaced, proper adjustment of the measuring chamber is required. Proper adjustment of adjusting screw (1) and the measuring chamber will depend on the bearing that is being lubricated.Note: Turn adjusting screw (1) by hand. Do not use wrenches.
Remove the cap that covers adjusting screw (1) and loosen locknut (2) .
Turn adjusting screw (1) clockwise into threaded plug (3) for the adjusting screw. Continue turning until the adjustment screw is finger tight.
Turn adjusting screw (1) counterclockwise to the specified number of turns.Note: For the specified settings of adjusting screw (1), refer to the following section in this Service Manual, "Lubrication Injector Banks - Adjust".
Tighten locknut (2) and replace the cap.
