Personal injury can result from air pressure against the piston.The piston can come out of the housing assembly with force when air pressure is applied.To prevent possible personal injury, the piston must be retained in the housing assembly when applying air pressure.
Retain brake piston (6) . Apply air to the port for the service brake. The air should be at a pressure of 0.5 MPa (75 psi). Piston (6) will be forced from the housing. Remove piston (6) .

Typical Example
Install seal (7) and seal (8) in the center housing.Note: Both seal styles shown above, follow according to your equipment. Coat the seals with petroleum jelly. Coat the bore with petroleum jelly before installing the brake piston.

Install piston (6) in the center housing.Note: Install the piston into the center housing without twisting or binding the piston in order to prevent damage to the seals.

Install reaction plate (5) .

Install sun gear (3) .
Lubricate friction disc (4) and install friction disc (4) .Note: Lubricate the friction disc by immersing the friction disc in 30W power train oil.
Install springs (2) .

Install reaction plate (1) .Note: Test the brake pistons for leaks. Apply 700 150 kPa (100 20 psi) of pressure. The piston must not lose more than 7 kPa (1 psi) of pressure in one minute.

Install Tooling (A) and a hoist to the rim of the axle shaft, as shown. Carefully install the axle housing assembly. The weight of the axle housing assembly is 295 kg (650 lb). Install bolts (10) and the washers that hold axle housing assembly (9) to the differential housing.End By: Install the axle housing. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly , "Axle Housing - Assemble".
