1. Loosen the tensioning nuts (1) on the alternator and air conditioner compressor tensioning rods (2). Loosen bolts (3) that secure the alternator and the air conditioner compressor. Loosen mounting bolts (4) that secure the alternator and the air conditioner compressor.2. Remove bolts (4) and the washers from rods (2). Remove bolts (5) and the washers and remove the belt tightener plate assembly (6) from the alternator and the air conditioner compressor. The following steps are for the installation of the alternator belt tightener.3. Install the alternator belt tightener in the reverse order of removal.4. Use the pulley assemblies and the tensioning nuts (1) on tension adjuster rods (2) to obtain the proper V-belt tension. Use a belt tension gauge such as Borroughs Tool Company Part No. BT-33-97 or equivalent, to measure the tension for the air conditioner compressor. Use a belt tension gauge such as Borroughs Tool Company Part No. BT-33-109 or equivalent, to measure the tension for the alternator. The belt tension reading should be 535 22 N (120 5 lb)for a new air conditioner compressor belt, or 400 N 44 (90 10 lb) for a used air conditioner compressor belt. The belt tension reading should be 800 22 N (180 5 lb)for a new alternator belt, or 489 N 44 (110 10 lb) for a used alternator belt.
