Personal injury or death can result from a fire.Fuel leaked or spilled onto hot surfaces or electrical components can cause a fire.Clean up all leaked or spilled fuel. Do not smoke while working on the fuel system.Turn the disconnect switch OFF or disconnect the battery when changing fuel filters.
Turn the disconnect switch OFF or disconnect the battery when changing fuel filters.Do not fill fuel filters with fuel before installing them. Contaminated fuel will cause accelerated wear to fuel system parts.
Remove the cover.

Remove the fuel filter. Note: The fuel filter has not been drained. The filter contains fuel. When you remove the filter, use caution in order to avoid spilling the fuel.
Inspect the fuel filter for debris by cutting the fuel filters open. Note: Dispose of used filters and used fluids according to local regulations.
Clean the mounting base of the fuel filter. Make sure that all of the old seal is removed from the mounting base.

Apply a thin coat of clean diesel fuel to the sealing surface of the new fuel filter.
Install the new filter by hand. Instructions for the installation of the filter are printed on the side of each Caterpillar spin-on filter. For non-Caterpillar filters, refer to the installation instructions that are provided by the supplier of the filter.
Prime the fuel system. Refer to Operation and Maintenance, "Fuel System - Prime".
Reattach the cover.
