Connections for the Electronic Technician (ET)The following Components are needed in order to use Caterpillar Electronic Technician: (1) Laptop computer (2) 139-4166 7X-1570 Data Link Cable (3) 7X-1425 Cable and 4C-6805 Adapter (4) Caterpillar Electronic Technician software (5) 7X-1700 Communication Adapter Tool Note: Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET) is a software program that can be used on an IBM compatible personal computer. Reference: For more information on the use of Caterpillar Electronic Technician, refer to Special Publication, JERD2124, "ET Single Use Program License", Special Publication, JEHP1026, "Information and Requirements Sheet", and Special Publication, JERD2142, "Data Subscription". The required hardware and the features of Caterpillar Electronic Technician are listed in Special Publication, JEHP1026, "Information and Requirements Sheet".The ET is not needed to determine service codes. The ET is not needed to clear service codes, but the ET makes the tasks easier and faster. The ET can also display information on service code history and on parameter status. Troubleshooting may be performed with the use of ET.The ET software communicates with the ECM through a connection with the machine service connector. The service connector is located behind the fuse panel access cover in the right interior panel of the cab. For more information on the location of the connectors, refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Electrical Components and Connector Locations" for the machine that is being serviced. Also refer to the Electrical System Schematic.Start the ET software after the communications adapter and the computer have been connected to the machine. The ET will initiate communications with each ECM on the machine. After communication has been established, the ET will list each ECM on the machine. Choose the menu item "Implement Control 966". See illustration 2. After the service codes have been determined with CAT ET, see the test procedure for the corresponding service code.

The following illustrations are for the 966G implement control groups 1 through 5.Note: The following examples are for version 2.2 of ET. Other versions may differ from these examples.Note: The percentage of the solenoid current is shown on the ET screen. Full current on a 966G wheel loader is 850 mA.Note: The four differences in parameter descriptions are listed in table 1.
