PROBLEM
The bolts that secure one segment on each final drive of certain D7E and D7E LGP Track-Type Tractors were not tightened properly at the factory. Damage may occur to the final drive hubs if the bolts are not tightened to the proper torque before loosening further.

The final drive sprocket bolts need to be tightened on the products listed below. The existing bolt torque is low and can cause damage to the final drive. You will not be charged for the service performed.
Contact your local Caterpillar dealer immediately to schedule this service. The dealer will advise you of the time required to complete this service.
Please refer the dealer to their Service Letter dated 24Jan2012 when scheduling this service.

Rework Procedure
Remove the sprocket guard to gain access to the sprocket bolts.
The segment with low torque can be identified by inspecting each segment for 600 N.m (443 lb ft). (600 N.m should NOT turn the nut.)

Use the following procedure to assemble the segment bolts :
1. Remove and clean the bolts and mating surfaces.
2. Lubricate the washer face, nut face, and bolt threads with clean SAE30 oil.
3. Tighten the bolts to 450 +/- 50 N.m (332 +/- 37 lb ft).
4. Tighten the bolts again by tightening them an additional 120 +/- 5 degrees turn.
