Engine Starting Below 0°C (+32°F) (If Equipped with Ether Starting Aid)
Inject starting aid (ether), only while cranking the engine, or after initial start-up, until the engine is running smoothly.Use sparingly, excessive ether without cranking can cause piston and ring damage.Wait approximately two seconds before injecting again.Use ether for cold starting purposes only.After every 30 seconds of engine cranking, allow two minutes for starting motor to cool before cranking again.Turbocharger (if equipped) damage can result, if the engine rpm is not kept low until the engine oil light/gauge verifies the oil pressure is sufficient.
1. Follow Steps 1 through 4 in Engine Starting Above 0°C (+32°F). Then proceed with the following steps.2. Turn the start switch key to start the engine. 3. Push the starting aid (ether) switch and release.4. Operate the start aid switch every two seconds while cranking the engine. Continue use until the engine starts and is running smoothly.5. Release the start switch key when the engine starts.For starting below -18°C (0°F), use of optional cold weather starting aids is recommended.
