The new flywheel housing utilizes a thrust bearing which helps to ensure the proper clearance and prevent wear of the flywheel housing.However, as a service option, the current flywheel housing can also be machined in order to ensure the proper clearance and prevent wear of the flywheel housing. Refer to Reuse and Salvage Guidelines, "Reuse and Salvage Guidelines for Flywheel Housings for C18 Excavator Engines".The change is adaptable back to first production of the engine. Refer to Table 1 for the correct part numbers, if the flywheel housing is to be replaced.
