Attaching A New Or Different Bucket
The dimensions of the excavator bucket must be recorded for the Cat® "Production Measurement Application" to function correctly. The bucket dimensions must be defined to aid the measurement system in determining the load status of the truck. When adding a new bucket to a machine, the operator or technician must complete four steps to locate the correct submenu. From the "Main" Menu, select the "Work Tool Select" Menu. Select a tool from the "Work Tool Select" Menu. After the tool has been identified, press the Tool Dimension soft key which is the center soft key icon, on the bottom of screen. See Illustration 2. The monitor then displays the dimensions screen for the selected bucket. Press the soft key below "Bucket Measure-Up" icon that is left of the center soft buttons to advance to the "Bucket Measure-Up" Menu. See Illustration 3. The bucket can now be measured and the dimensions entered into the tool dimension screen by following the procedure displayed on the monitor. Illustrations 1 through 4 display the correct menu displays used in the bucket measuring process.

Gathering and Entering Data
The distance between a series of predefined points must be measured to determine the capacity of the bucket. A total of six measurements are entered by following a series of prompts. The measurements are entered using the UP and DOWN arrows to adjust the number.Illustration 5 displays the first step for measuring the dimensions for the selected bucket.

Press the soft key below the question mark, the center icon, to display the measuring point image on the monitor.
Pressing the question mark symbol, while in the "Bucket Measure-Up" menu displays locations for measuring the distances along the bucket. The question mark symbol is located above the center soft panel button. See Illustration 5. The position of the bucket while these measurements are being made is also displayed for each measurement. See Illustration 8. Follow the guidelines provided to insure accurate measurements are acquired.

A "plumb bob" or balanced weight must be hung from the bucket to acquire this weight accurately.
After selecting the "Bucket Measure-Up" icon, measure the distance between the following points, when prompted:
Point "G" to Point "H".
Point "G" to Point "J".
Point "G" to Point "Q".
Point "J" to Point "Q".
Bucket width at the cutting edge.
Point "J" to Point "J1" (accounts for bucket tooth wear).Two additional steps are required during the "Bucket Measure-Up" procedure, which uses the bucket position sensing cylinder to capture the required data points.
Position the bucket so that point "J" is directly below pin "G".
