(34)Steering Hydraulic System
Use caution when draining oil or changing filters. Hot oil or components can cause personal injury if they contact skin.
Machine level, parking brake set, oil warm and engine stopped. 1. Remove filter cover. 2. Remove and discard filter element. 3. Remove screen and wash in clean non-flammable solvent. 4. Clean cover and inspect cover seal. Use new seal if necessary.5. Install clean screen and new filter element.6. Install cover, and tighten cover bolt to 43 4 lb. ft. (59 5 N m). 7. Start the engine and operate machine for a few minutes. When the oil is warm, observe oil level. Maintain oil level to FULL mark in the sight gauge.8. Add oil if necessary. If the steering filter service light is on continuously when the oil is warm, and the engine is operating, between 1200-2200 RPM, change filter element.(35)Engine Crankcase Breather
1. Stop the engine. Loosen hose clamps and remove hose from breather. 2. Loosen bolt, remove clamp from breather and remove breather.3. Wash breather in clean non-flammable solvent. Allow to dry.4. Install breather and tighten clamp.5. Re-connect hose to breather and tighten hose clamp.(36)Cooling System - Add Coolant Conditioner
Always inspect cooling system with engine stopped.Conditioner contains alkali, avoid contact with skin and eyes to prevent personal injury.Remove filler cap slowly to relieve pressure. Steam can cause personal injury.
Machine level, bed lowered, TRANSMISSION/PARKING BRAKE engaged and engine stopped. AT INITIAL FILL, OR REFILL OF THE COMPLETE COOLING SYSTEM, add enough Caterpillar Cooling System Conditioner, or equivalent, so that the cooling system will have a 3% concentration of conditioner. Add 10 pints (4.75 liters) of conditioner to this cooling system. EVERY 250 SERVICE HOURS OR MONTHLY thereafter: Add 2 pints (0.95 liters) of Caterpillar Cooling System Conditioner, or equivalent, to this cooling system. This will maintain the required 3% concentration of cooling system conditioner.
Do not use Caterpillar Cooling System Conditioner with Dowtherm 209 Full-Fill Coolant.
1. Loosen radiator cap slowly to relieve pressure, and remove cap. It may be necessary, to drain enough coolant to allow for the addition of conditioner.2. Add Caterpillar Cooling System Conditioner See above for amount of conditioner to add.3. Inspect radiator cap gasket. Replace if damaged4. Install radiator cap.
