Slowly loosen the fill/vent plug on the hydraulic tank in order to relieve the pressure in the tank.
Remove the key which starts the machine. Secure the cab.Parts Needed

Release the hydraulic system pressure. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, " Hydraulic System Pressure - Release".Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the disassembly procedure, the exterior of the component should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Runout Measurement
Runout between 2 boot retainers on the frame and the swivel must be measured on a full swing frame rotation. Refer to Illustration 3. This gives the alignment error between the swing bearing axis and swivel axis. Refer to Illustration 4. If the runout is less than 4 mm (0.1575 inch), no additional action is needed. If runout is equal or greater than 4 mm (0.1575 inch) the cover assembly must be reworked and the swivel boot must be replaced. Follow the procedure below.

Procedure to Rework the Cover Assembly if Runout is Equal or Greater Than 4 mm (0.1575 inch)
The cover assembly is welded on the carbody ring. Fabricate the template fixture. Refer to Illustration 5.
Swing the machine in order to align track roller frames and the upper frame correctly. The track motor must be at the rear of the machine in this aligned position.
Remove swing drives, swing drive lines, swivel, swivel lines and the boot. Follow your Disassembly and Assembly manual to proceed.

Template Fixture
Attach the template fixture on the boot bolt pattern on the bottom plate of the upper frame with three 8T-4195 Bolts M 10x1.5 that are used to attach the boot on the bottom plate of the upper frame. Place the template in the FRONT direction of the upper frame. Refer to the FRONT of template on Illustration 5. Refer to the bolt pattern for the boot on the upper frame. This can be seen from the top on Illustration 7.
Tighten these 3 bolts to a torque of 55 10 N m
