CAT Data Link is an input/output of the hydrostatic transmission ECM. The data link communicates with other electronic control modules (ECM) on the machine or the data link communicates with a service tool. The data link is bidirectional. The CAT data link allows the ECM to input information and this allows the ECM to output information. The data link is not a visible component. The data link consists of the following parts: internal ECM circuits, the related harness wiring and the service tool connector. The CAT data link connects to the ECM at contact 8 and at contact 9. Much information is available on the CAT data link. The hydrostatic transmission ECM and the Caterpillar Monitoring System require the use of certain data that is sent back and forth on the CAT data link. Some of the shared information follows:
The hydrostatic transmission ECM receives commands from the Caterpillar Monitoring System. The information is for changing operating modes. The information is for reading codes and the information is for clearing stored codes.
The hydrostatic transmission ECM receives harness code information from the Caterpillar Monitoring System. This harness code tells the ECM the sales model of the machine.
The ECM sends information to the Caterpillar Monitoring System. The Caterpillar Monitoring System shows the operator information on gauges and on alert indicators. Note: All electronic control modules that use CAT data link have a module identifier (MID). The Hydrostatic Transmission Electronic Control System(MID) number is 079. The Caterpillar Monitoring System number is 030.
