Removal Procedure
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Note: These engines have two water temperature regulators. The procedure that is described will work for both of the water temperature regulators. Only one water temperature regulator is described for the removal procedure. Follow the same procedure for the second water temperature regulator.
Drain the coolant from the engine to a level that is below the water temperature regulators into a suitable container for storage or disposal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Refill Capacities".

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Never operate an engine without water temperature regulators in the cooling system. Water temperature regulators help to maintain the engine coolant at the proper operating temperature. Cooling system problems can develop without water temperature regulators.
If the water temperature regulator is installed incorrectly, it will cause the engine to overheat.
Note: These engines have two water temperature regulators. The procedure that is described will work for both of the water temperature regulators. Only one water temperature regulator is described for the installation procedure. Follow the same procedure for the second water temperature regulator.Note: Check the condition of the gaskets and the O-ring seals. If the gaskets or the O-ring seals are worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement.Note: For more information on the water temperature regulators, refer to Specifications, "Water Temperature Regulator".
