Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Put identification on all lines, hoses, wires, and tubes for installation purposes. Cap and plug all lines, hoses, and tubes to prevent fluid loss and to prevent contaminants from entering the system.1. Connect the steering frame lock link. See the topic "Separate & Connect Steering Frame Lock Link" in this module.2. Release the hydraulic system pressure. Refer to the topic "Hydraulic System Pressure - Release" in this module. 3. Remove four screws (1) from panel (2).4. Remove eleven screws (4) and inner housing (3). 5. Remove four screws (6) and outer housing (5). 6. Disconnect four hose assemblies (7) from pilot valve (8). 7. Disconnect control linkage (9) from pilot valve (8).8. Remove four bolts (10) and pilot valve (8).Install Pilot Valve
1. Install pilot valve (8) and four bolts (10).2. Connect control linkage (9) to pilot valve (8). 3. Connect four hose assemblies (7) to pilot valve (8). 4. Install outer housing (5) and four screws (6). 5. Install inner housing (3) and eleven screws (4).6. Install four screws (1) in panel (2).7. Separate the steering frame lock link. Refer to the topic "Steering Frame Lock Link, Separate & Connect" in this module.Disassemble Pilot Valve
Start By:a. remove pilot valve 1. Remove the three O-ring seals (2) and the three O-ring seals (3) fromvalve body (1).2. Remove seal housing (4) from the valve stem and valve body. 3. Remove O-ring seal (5) and lip seal (6) from housing (4). 4. Remove housing (7) from valve body (1). Remove the O-ring seal from housing (7). 5. Remove valve stem (8) from valve body (1). 6. Remove retainer (11), spring (10) and retainer (9) from valve stem(8). 7. Remove orifice plugs (12) from the valve body (1).Assemble Pilot Valve
1. Make sure all of the parts are clean and free of dirt and foreign material. Put clean hydraulic oil on all parts at assembly. 2. Install orifice plugs (12) in valve body (1). 3. Install retainers (9), spring (10) and retainers (11) on valve stem (8). 4. Install valve stem (8) in valve body (1) as shown. 5. Install the O-ring seal and housing (7) on valve body (1). 6. Use Tooling group (A) to install seal (6) in housing (4) with the lip of the seal toward the inside of the valve. Install O-ring seal (5) in housing (4). 7. Install O-ring seals (2) and (3) in valve body (1).8. Install housing (4) on valve body (1).End By:a. install pilot valve
