This increases friction so the carcass does not slip (move) on the rim assembly during machine operation.
When replacement of a rim assembly becomes necessary or if repairs are made to an earlier rim assembly, make sure the carcass side of the rim assembly is sandblasted before reassembly. Coarse sand must be used to remove all paint and make the surface rough to prevent slippage (movement) of the carcass. Do not use a disc sander or any other method to clean the rim assemblies.
