Fall HazardDeath or serious injury may result from climbing raised mast.Do not climb raised mast. Lower mast completely to service.
Personal injury or death can result from worn wire rope cable.Worn or frayed cable could break causing injury.Check the wire rope cable. If cable is worn or is frayed install a new cable.
Wear leather gloves when handling the wire cable.
The following procedures are used in order to check for proper alignment of the mast components. Proper mast alignment is required in order to prevent excessive wear and/or damage to mast components.Mast Alignment
Position the machine on level ground and level the machine. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Leveling".
Raise and lock the mast in the VERTICAL position. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Mast Operation".
Raise the rotary head to the highest position.
Check the alignment of the drill pipe above the deck bushing. The drill pipe should be positioned in the CENTER of the deck bushing. The drill pipe must hang in the CENTER without the help of the deck bushing.If the drill pipe is positioned in the CENTER of the deck bushing, the mast is aligned.If the drill pipe is not positioned in the CENTER of the deck bushing, adjust the slide wear pads and cables as needed. Inspect all wear pads (3). Replace wear pads that are damaged or excessively worn.
Add or remove shims behind the wear pads until the drill pipe is positioned in the CENTER of the deck bushing.Note: The clearance between the wear pad and the mast should be 2 1 mm (0.08 0.04 inch).
Install the bolts that secure the wear pads.
If unable to position the drill pipe in the CENTER of the deck bushing, refer to Systems Operation Testing and Adjusting, "Mast Alignment - Test and Adjust" or contact your Cat dealer.
