Steering Motor (1) Steering Motor. (2) Hose.Machine Preparation
To prevent oil loss during disconnecting and connecting of hoses, install a vacuum breaker on the hydraulic/steering oil tank.
1. Put a 0 to 250 kPa (0 to 36 psi) pressure gauge on a 6V-3081 Hose.2. Disconnect hose (2) from steering motor (1).3. Install a tee on connector at the steering motor.4. Connect the hose/gauge assembly from Step 3 and hose (2) to the tee.
5. Start and run engine at maximum speed.6. Record the pressure reading on the gauge.7. For machines with external brakes (calipers inside the drivewheels), hold the brakes and turn the steering wheel to stall the steering system.For machines with internal (wet) brakes, position the tractor on a clean, aggressive surface (asphalt or rough concrete) and remove all of the air from the air springs. With the transmission in NEUTRAL and the parking brake applied, turn the steering wheel until the tractor is just on the verge of moving.
8. Record the pressure reading on the gauge.
Do not put the steering system in a stall condition for more than 15 seconds at a time, due to excessive heat generation in steering system.
9. The second pressure reading should not increase more than 21 kPa (3 psi). If the pressure increase is more than 21 kPa (3 psi), the steering motor case drain flow should be checked.Motor Case Drain Flow
Case drain flow is check by connecting a hose directly to drain hose connection (2) on the motor and allowing the oil to flow in a suitable container for measure volume.
10. Repeat Step 7 and Step 9. Note the oil volume.11. Hold the steering condition for 10 seconds. Note the oil volume. Increase in oil volume should be less than .33 L (.086 gal) or the flowrate should be less than 2 L/min (.52 gpm).

12. If the oil volume increase is greater than .33 L (.08 gal) or the flowrate is greater than 2 L/min (.52 gpm). the steering motor should be checked for causes of excessive leakage.
